Original Nigerian handcarved Ifá tappers. As part of a ritual carried out to predict the future, Yoruba diviners beat tappers such as this against special trays (Opon Ifá) and while praying, singing sacred music and incantations. The sound is meant to attract the attention of the deities and specially Ifa, the deity associated with divination.
